What We Do

The Bishops Appeal

Bishops' Appeal: The Church of Ireland World Aid and Development Programme

Dublin and Glendalough Diocese is the biggest supporter of the Church of Ireland Bishops’ Appeal, collecting over €200,000 for its work in 2006

Bishops' Appeal is the Church of Ireland World Aid and Development Programme.
Our tasks are:

- to educate the Church at home about the needs and concerns of people in the majority world;

- to encourage Church members to examine the reasons for the problems facing the poor and to consider what we can do to change conditions

- to reach out in God's name to those who need our help

- to raise the funds needed to allow Bishops' Appeal to support development projects and alleviate the suffering caused by disasters, both natural and man-made.

Bishops' Appeal does not engage directly in development work itself, but channels funds through development agencies who are already in place in areas of need.

Our work falls into four main categories:

Disaster and emergency relief

Agricultural and rural development programmes

Education, both in schools and through the production and promotion of materials

Medical and HIV/AIDS projects

You can find out more about us at the Church of Ireland website.
